Thesis describes the process and technique of optical fiber splicer based electric arc discharge method for fabrication of long period gratings in different kinds of optical fibers. Also describe the capabilities of the fabrication and the gratings morphological analysis. The rapidly growing field of optical fiber-based sensors technology demands accurate, reliable and economical sensors. Inspired by the success of long period gratings fabricated with the laser-based technique, this project focused to develop a reliable and economical long period gratings fabrication platform. This work was dedicated to develop a long period grating fabrication set up which is economical and produce high quality gratings.
